| USS Ranger's Captain Ernest E. Christensen, Jr. Heading into the Gulf in Defense Condition Two (DEFCON 2), and in Readiness Condition One. "Worldwide the US is still in DEFCON 4. It would be anticipated that as we enter into hostilities, we would slide into DEFCON 1." | THE EXECUTION ORDER has been given, Captain Christensen advises the crew of USS Ranger. A moment in history where the men onboard USS Ranger have been "given the honor to stand up and be counted." |
For
troop protection against Chemical, Biological and Radiation (CBR)
attacks during the 1991 Gulf War, the United States government issued
auto-injectors with 2-PAM Chloride and Atropine. These chemicals were later
linked to complaints known as GULF WAR SYNDROME. Although some had expired years before distribution,
corpsmen told the troops to rest assured that "most" had been retested, and EXPIRATION DATES,
EXTENDED. Now as the troops head overseas, have you heard any vague whispers
about GULF WAR SYNDROME lately? I guess not, don't wonder why. |

| Expired Auto-Injectors
(I) "I'd just like to comment for a brief moment about a concern some of you've expressed, if you've seen these auto-injectors, about the expiration dates. We're well aware, that many of the auto-injectors that we have onboard and that have been passed out to members of the crew, have expirations dates of, as far back as 1986. We're aware that these have expired. There are a limited number of these agents available for all of the troops in the theater at the moment. Most of the ones we have onboard have been retested by the Food and Drug Administration and their expiration dates have been extended. So we're very confident that these things will work when we need them to." (Source: USS Ranger Medical) Expired Auto-Injectors
